More about the beer
Pilsner was born in 1842 in Plzeň, in what’s now the Czech Republic. It was the world’s first clear golden beer, and almost every pale lager you’ve ever drunk descends from it. A Czech-style pils relies on soft water, pale malt and a long, cold conditioning. “Lager” comes from the German lagern, meaning “to store”. The result is crisp, clean and bright, a beer that takes time to make and no time to drink.

More about the bird
Rockhopper penguins live on rocky islands in the Southern Ocean, including the Falklands and Tristan da Cunha. They’re the smallest of the crested penguins, around 50cm tall, with red eyes and wild yellow eyebrow feathers. Most penguins waddle or slide, but rockhoppers bounce feet-first up cliff faces and between boulders, landing every time. They return to the same colony, and often the same mate, year after year. They are a protected species, so the closest you’ll get in North Devon is a cold pint of this one.

But Why Rockhopper?
We wanted our signature beer to be named after the brewery and felt the Pilsner would fly the flag.
